Expo adds new Interactive Showcase for video games firms as momentum builds for debut Vegas event.
This year's Licensing International expo will welcome a number of video games companies to the show floor, with organiser Advanstar creating a special Interactive Showcase, described as a 'show within a show'.
Nintendo of America, Electronic Arts, Konami Corporation and Capcom Entertainment have signed up as charter exhibitors - all of which have already made strong strides within licensing.
After signing with United Talent Agency last summer to create TV shows and movies from game properties and characters, EA has made a number of deals relating to two of its autumn titles. For sci-fi horror game Dead Space, the firm teamed up with Image Comics for a comic book series, and together with Anchor Bay Entertainment, released a feature-length animated DVD.
Its first person platformer, Mirror's Edge, included a comic book mini-series by DC Comics and an audio maxi-single featuring the game's theme song.
Nintendo, meanwhile, is currently basking in the glow of phenomenal sales of its Wii console, while Konami has a history of working in the licensing business - a film based on its Silent Hill franchise was released back in 2006, while Metal Gear Solid is being given the film treatment this year.
Finally, Capcom's Resident Evil series is a big licensing success story.
"The Interactive Showcase will have strong industry representation," explained Georgiann De Cenzo, executive VP at Advanstar Communications. "Video games are taking off and the Interactive Showcase will capture that energy for licensing executives to tap into. It's something that has to be seen to be believed."
Licensing International 2009 runs from June 2nd to 4th at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Click here for further details.
