Lola & Virginia head to Italy

Rai Trade acquires merchandising rights for Imira's animated series.

The licensing and merchandising drive for Imira's Lola & Virginia is now well underway, with the firm this week scooping a major Italian deal with Rai Trade, which sees it acquiring merchandising rights for the territory.

In addition to this, Panini is due to launch a Lola & Virginia sticker stack book, story albums, puzzle and colouring books in Italy, as well as Spain, Portugal and Brasil. Imira has also signed a deal with Nintendo for a DS game in selected territories.

The animation is to due to air daily on Italy's Rai 2 channel from September. The show has also sold worldwide in over 90 territories to broadcasters including RTVE, France 3, RTP and Nickelodeon in Latin America, Asia and France, plus the Disney channels in Spain and Italy.

Licensing deals have also been inked for Spain and Portugal with Comercial Nim, with product lines including school sets and stationery, with games, t-shirts, beach sets and toiletries to come through a deal with Mendia Marketing.

Grupo Edebe has also launched ten manga style comic books in Spain, while mobile content provider Alvento is distributing ring tones, games, images, screen savers and a WAP portal.

Online games are also being produced for the official website.
