Magic Light Pictures scoops Annie Award for Revolting Rhymes

The win marks another major coup for the film as anticipation gorws for next month’s Oscars, in which Revolting Rhymes has been nominated in the Animated Short Film category.

Magic Light Pictures’ Revolting Rhymes has scooped the award for Best Animated Special Production at the annual Annie Awards in Los Angeles.

The win marks another major coup for the film as anticipation gorws for next month’s Oscars, in which Revolting Rhymes has been nominated in the Animated Short Film category.

The feature has already picked up awards at the Baftas, European Animation Awards and the Annecy Animation Festival.

This is now Magic Light’s fourth Oscar-nominated film, following previous nods in the same category for The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom and one for their animated feature Chico and Rita.

Revolting Rhymes enthralled 10 million viewers over Christmas 2016 and also enjoyed great critical acclaim. Basedo nthe book by Roald Dahl, illustrated by Quentin Blake, the film was shown on BBC One and was directed by Jakob Schuh and Jan Lachauer, co-directed by Bin-Han To.

The all-star voice cast includes Dominic West, Gemma Chan, Rose Lesie, Rob Brydon and David Walliams.

Magic Light Pictures co-founder, Martin Pope, said: “This is the first time that a Magic Light Pictures production has won an Annie, and we are thrilled to be recognised at such a prestigious event against stiff opposition.
