MIPTV 08: Imira inks Korean deal

Firm signs co-production agreement with VOOZ Character Systems, its first with a Korean company.

Spanish production and distribution firm Imira Entertainment is joining forces with Korea's VOOZ Character Systems for a new co-production.

VOOZ specialises in character branding and is the creator of Pucca. It will co-develop and co-finance a new 3D animated series with Imira, Myo & Ga: The Life of a Hero.

The 78xseven-minute series is aimed at ages six and upwards. Tooniverse, Korea's leading animation channel, is also on board and the parties are seeking further co-production partners and pre-sales at MIP.

The deal extends Imira's collaboration with Korean firms. In addition to a number of sales to broadcasters in the region, the company currently distributes several Korean-produced series such as the Iconix-produced Pororo in Spain.

"As part of our continuing remit to expand our production slate and co-produce with selected partners, we are delighted to be announcing a co-production with Vooz, Imira's first Korean company," said Sergi Reitg, MD at Imira.

Kim Boo Kyoung, CEO of VOOZ, added: "The characters of Myo & Ga are characterised by dynamic action and humour mixed with an Oriental flavour, and brough to life using full rendered 3D CGI. We are confident that the collaboration with Imira in Spain and Tooniverse will produce excellent results for this series."
