The project has tapped academy award winner and man behind Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Steve Box to direct.
Hit Scandinavian property, Moomins is making its return to TV with a new animated series currently in development.
In a partnership with both Moomin Characters and Bulls Licensing, production company Filmlance – known for its work with the acclaimed Scandinavian thriller Bron – will lead the new project.
Filmlance managing director Lars Blomgren is set to executive produce the new series and will work closely with Sophia Jansson, the niece of Moomins creator Tov Jansson, to bring the children’s show to a global audience.
The project has also tapped academy award winner and man behind Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Steve Box to direct.
“At Moomin Characters we are tremendously happy that we have been presented with this opportunity to work with Filmlance, Endemol Shine Group and such a fantastic creative team,” said Jansson.
“I am very confident that in their hands the Moomins will become something new and wonderful, created with great respect for Tove’s original stories and characters.”
Blomgren added: “The opportunity to gather together such a brilliant group of creative minds in order to develop a new version of the Moomins is a dream come true for me.
“Tove’s work is filled with such empathy and joy; something our children need and deserve today more than ever before.”
The new series will mark the fourth TV adaptation of the hit property, the most recent of which – Moomin – was produced in 1990.
