George Lucas? Star Wars: The Clone Wars to premiere as a new feature film in the US in August.A television series will then premiere on Cartoon Network in autumn, followed by airings on TNT.
Lucasfilm, in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures and Turner Broadcasting System, plans to take audiences on new adventures, combining the storytelling of Lucasfilm with computer-generated animation to give the galaxy a new look and feel.
Viewers will be re united with characters such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padmé Amidala, along with new heroes such as Anakin’s padawan learner, Ahsoka. The film will also feature Jedi Knights and villains led by Darth Sidious, Count Dooku and General Grievous.
Lucasfilm Animation has produced more than 30 episodes, with more in the offing.
“I felt there were a lot more Star Wars stories left to tell,” George Lucas, executive producer, said. “I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the art of animation forward.”
"We’re absolutely thrilled that Warner Bros Pictures will be partnering with Lucasfilm on the UK theatrical and DVD releases. We are still awaiting confirmation of the UK terrestrial TV partner. We have a terrific merchandise and promotion programme building and Star Wars: The Clone Wars is set to be the boys franchise for 2008 and beyond,” Lisa Shapiro, MD of The Licensing Company, offered.
International theatrical release and broadcast dates are still to be announced.
