New narrator and trains for Thomas and Friends

Heartbeat actor Mark Moraghan will take on the role of storyteller.

Thomas and Friends has signed up a new narrator: TV star Mark Moraghan.

The Liverpudlian actor has appeared in shows such as Brookside, Holby City, Peak Practice and Heartbeat. He assumes the role of storyteller and will narrate the programme in all English-language territories.

Along with the new narrator, Hit Entertainment is driving its children's show Thomas and Friends onto Channel 5's Milkshake on Monday, June 3rd with new stories and characters.

The new series will also introduce fresh faces, including narrow gauge engine Millie and Connor and Caitlin, two feisty streamlined engines with a love of racing.

Mark Moraghan said: "It is fantastic to be associated with such an iconic series and a great legacy for my children and grandchildren. I am very proud to be part of it.

Michael Carrington, head of content and production at Hit Entertainment, said: "We are delighted to welcome Mark Moraghan to Thomas and Friends.

"The voices of the series are lost as iconic as the little engine himself and Mark's lyrical, understated storytelling complements the on-screen action beautifully."

Series 17 of Thomas and Friends will see the engines embark on escapades to ensure the smooth running of the tracks of Sodor, including searching for runaway rail track inspection vehicle Winston who goes missing after his hand brake is left off.
