Partnering with Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar and leading charity Action for Children, the fundraising campaign targeted thousands of nurseries, children’s centres and families up and down the country.
Rocket Licensing is celebrating the success of its Giant Wiggle charity event, an initiative that brought The Very Hungry Caterpillar to kids and families across the UK for the third year running.
Partnering with Eric Carle’s classic children’s property and leading charity Action for Children, the fundraising campaign targeted thousands of nurseries, children’s centres and families up and down the country.
The Giant Wiggle brings children together to wiggle in a sponsored giant caterpillar-style conga lines in an event that coincides with the anniversary of the kids’ book and aims to encourage an active lifestyle alongside imaginative play and storytelling.
The funds raised help vulnerable children, young people and families in the heart of communities.
This year’s highlights included Very Hungry Caterpillar craft activities and a Giant Wiggle conga line along a carved wooden Very Hungry Caterpillar story scene trail attended by over 200 schoolchildren from six local schools in Dean Heritage Centre in Gloucestershire; an afternoon of storytelling, face painting and a Giant Wiggle in Bushy Park in London in partnership with licensee Cawston Press; and a celebrity-led Giant Wiggle at Folkestone Children's Centre, including a storytelling session from British Comedy Award winner Jessica Hynes. Many events also enjoyed a visit from the Very Hungry Caterpillar himself, much to the delight of the children!
Over the last three years more than 2,400 Giant Wiggle events have taken place across the UK with 110,500 children joining the campaign.
The event is now firmly established on the fundraising calendar — and its success has also been recognised by the licensing community. The Giant Wiggle was a finalist in the Best Licensed Marketing Campaign category at The 2015 Licensing Awards. A year earlier the Giant Wiggle was 2014 Winner of Best Pre-school Marketing Award at the Progressive Pre-school Awards.
Action for Children, Rocket Licensing and the world’s most famous caterpillar are already planning the 2017 and 2018 events in order to further build the popularity of this major charity drive in the run-up to 2019: the 50th anniversary of the publication of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and the 150th anniversary of Action for Children.
