New half-hour bonus series will launch this September with "more dancing, singing and interaction than ever."
Sesame Street is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year by welcoming a host of Hollywood celebrities to its iconic avenue.
One Direction, Jonah Hill, Sir Ian McKellen, Zach Galifianakis and more will all walk the famous boulevard alongside the show’s popular characters in a bonus half-hour programme, scheduled to air weekday afternoons and weekend mornings.
Season 45 of Sesame Street has also been billed by Sesame Workshop as the ‘most danceable, most musical and the most high-energy season yet,’ with new original songs, new Elmo the Musical and Super Grover 2.0 segments, new animations and more.
“In our 45th anniversary season, our audience will have even more of what they love most about Sesame Street,” said Carol-Lynn Parente, senior vice president and executive producer of Sesame Street.
“There is more music, more dancing, more interactivity and more of the characters they love so much, and now even more opportunities to watch it with an afternoon and weekend play.”
Lesli Rotenberg, general manager, Children’s Media PBS, added: “PBS Kids is thrilled to celebrate Sesame Street’s 45-year legacy by offering a new half-hour programmme.
“The bonus half-hour programme will enable PBS Kids to offer Sesame Street to even more families on-air and on digital platforms, making it easy for them to engage with their favourite characters and helping kids build key skills.”
The bonus half-hour programmes will run alongside Sesame Street’s regular weekday one-hour series, debuting this September.
Season 45 of Sesame Street will air on PBS Kids from September 15th.
