Activision's hit toy/game hybrid is best-selling game between February and April.
Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure is the world’s No.1 best-selling console and handheld video game of 2012 so far.
It was the top-selling game product between January 30th and April 2012 worldwide based on revenues including toys and accessories, according to The NPD Group, GfK, Chart-Track and Activision internal estimates.
“This achievement is incredibly gratifying, and quite an honour for everyone at Activision and our team at Toys for Bob,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.
“It was a simple idea really – bridging the gap between real and virtual play – but one that required tremendous creativity to execute and communicate to our audience. It spawned a new category and a new platform for play in an overwhelmingly challenging marketplace.
“We couldn’t be happier that there is an ever-growing universe of Portal Masters out there.”
Skylanders was also the No.1 best-selling kids’ video game worldwide in 2011 based on revenue inclusive of toys and accessories. Consumers can buy toy figures which sit on a Portal of Power console accessory, in order to transform them into playable in-game characters.
A sequel, Skylanders Giants, is due for release in October.
A line of Mega Bloks Skylanders has just been unveiled. Plus, CPLG has been named Skylanders licensing agent for Western Europe.
