Star Trek in for a 'landmark year' in licensing, says CBS Consumer Products

CBS Consumer Products will take licensing activity surrounding the hit sci-fi franchise up a notch with a roster of new domestic and international partners.

2016 will be a landmark year for Star Trek thanks to new plans to dominate the licensing space with a robust, global merchandise programme.

CBS Consumer Products has unveiled its plans to take licensing activity surrounding the hit sci-fi franchise up a notch with a roster of new domestic and international partners.

Coinciding with the 50th anniversary celebrations of the popular property, the firm has secured a swathe of new deals taking Star Trek deeper into the toys, games, apparel and book universes.

The new licensees will pay tribute to both the legacy and the future of the Star Trek franchise with products spanning a number of categories, from Spin Master’s remote controlled vehicles to new Tridimensional chess sets from Wooden Expressions.

In the publishing sector, Cross Cult has signed to develop a series of novels in the German market, while National Geographic will launch the Star Trek Guide to Our Universe hardcover title.

Meanwhile, Accutime Watch Corporation will launch a line of Star Trek themed watches, Brainstorm will deliver running apparel, Somerbond has been signed for sleepwear and Threadless for t-shirts and socks.

The collectables market will see an influx of Star Trek product too with companies including Build-A-Bear Workshop, Mezco, Roads Innovation, Titan and Wish Factory all on board.

In toys and games, Gale Force Nine will launch a new Star Trek hobby game title, Spin Master will launch RC vehicles and USAopoly will develop new Star Trek themed board games.
