New openings being planned to rival the likes of Debenhams and M&S.

Internet reports are suggesting this morning that UK supermarket giant Tesco is planning to open a series of department store-style shops.

A report on business.scotsman.com said that the move was an effort to rival High Street chains such as Debenhams, M&S and Bhs.

The big town centre sites will apparently focus on non-food ranges from jewellery and watches to household goods, as well as groceries. In a marketing document obtained by Property Week, it described the multi-level town centre outlets as a 'whole new concept'.
