US: Brooklyn Defender beer created for New York Comic Con

ReedPOP and The Brooklyn Brewery have partnered on the special American Black Ale

ReedPOP and The Brooklyn Brewery have partnered to create a special American Black Ale specifically for this year's New York Comic Con.

The Brooklyn Defender has been designed to 'strike fear into the heart of those who would forget the virtues of true beer'.

"As a New York City native who grew up on 70s comics and later edited a science fiction magazine, getting to make the Brooklyn Defender for New York Comic Con is a massive honor for my inner geek," said Garrett Oliver, brewmaster of Brooklyn Brewery.

Acclaimed comic book artist Cliff Chiang has created the artwork for the beer and the drink will be debuted at a special party on September 21st before moving onto selected bars, restaurants and the New York Comic Con.

“New York Comic Con is a celebration of all things pop culture and what better way to celebrate than with a beer," said ReedPOP global vice president Lance Fensterman.

"The Brooklyn Brewery has created a true gift for fans and has lined up some events and partnerships that will bring the magic of NYCC all throughout the city."

The New York Comic Con takes place October 10-13 at the Javits Center.
