Fox and Blue Sky Studios hope to build on success of Ice Age and Rio with new release.
Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products film relationship with Blue Sky Studios, which includes Ice Age and Rio, has so far generated nearly $3 million in worldwide box office receipts and over 123 DVDs sold. The firms are now looking to further this success with the latest addition to the Ice Age franchise.
Robert Marick, executive vice president, Fox Consumer Products, commented: "Blue Sky is creating some of the greatest and most successful animated films in the world today, which gives us a lot of freedom when developing a merchandising programme.
"We know that the fans will be there and we'll have more than enough amazing content to translate at retail. The next installment of the Ice Age franchise will take the brand to the next level."
Ice Age: Continental Drift is due to be released in the US on July 13th 2012. In addition to the original cast, there will be a new line-up of voice talent including: Jeremy Renner, Wanda Sykes, Keke Palmer and Jennifer Lopez, along with Aziz Ansari and hip hop star Drake.
In the lead up to the film release, Fox Consumer Products will continue to build on a programme which earned over $80 million in retail sales across multiple key categories including publishing, video games, toys and stationery.
Before Continental Drift is released, Fox will offer fans a Ice Age TV Christmas special - Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas - on Fox in the US.
