Viacom expands MTV portfolio in Asia

TV stations in China and Malaysia pick up MTV Music and Video Awards shows.

Viacom International Media Networks has expanded its MTV music portfolio throughout Asia.

Several third party deals have been signed by TV stations for MTV's various award shows and music programmes.

Zhong Shi Jun Hui (Beijing) Advertising and Media Co has signed the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, the 2013 MTV EMA and the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, alongside the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, the 2012 MTV EMA and the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. 

In China, Hubu Media has signed the 2011 MTV EMA, BESTV will air the 2011 Video Music Awards and the 2011 MTV EMA, and Shenzhen Tianhua Century Media Co has signed up the BET Hip Hop Awards 2011 and the BET Awards 2011.

In Malaysia, Metropolitan TV Sdn Bhd/8TV has picked up the 2012 Video Music Awards and the 2012 MTV EMA.

MTV’s acoustic music series MTV Unplugged has been picked up by Zhong Shi Jun Hui (Beijing) Advertising and Media Co, plus VH1 Unplugged: Black Crowes and VH1 Unplugged: The Script.

China's Wasu Media & Network Co has also signed the rights to air MTV Unplugged: Vampire Weekend.
