Viacom eyes global growth with first Paramount Channel in Asia

The 24-hour channel will offer audiences in Thailand blockbuster movies, cult favourites and titles from its extensive back catalogue.

Viacom International Media Networks is growing its international arm with the launch of the first Paramount Channel in Asia.

Building on its international success across Europe, Russia and Latin America, VIMN has secured its first distribution deal in Asia with Thailand’s CTH.

The agreement also includes a new licensing deal for MTV Thailand to be officially moved over to CTH, which was effective from January 15th this year.

A 24-hour network, Paramount Channel will offer Thai audiences a unique mix of blockbusters, movie hits, cult favourites and award-winning films from Paramount Pictures’ monumental film library.

“The introduction of Paramount Channel in Asia is a key, strategic step in deepening our presence both in Thailand and in Asia, while expanding our portfolio of adult-targeted brands,” said Mark Whitehead, executive vice president and managing director for VIMN Asia.

“We are thrilled CTH has come on board for this highly anticipated launch in Asia and look forward to seeing Paramount Channel expand further in the coming months.”

The new channel will be lead by Paras Sharma, senior vice president of MTV Comedy Central and Paramount Brands and digital media, VIMN Asia as it joins its sister channels MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Comedy Central, MTV Live and MTV China in the region.
