Waybuloo book sales soar past £1m mark

Over half a million books sold since Egmont launched range in August 2009.

Egmont is celebrating record sales for its collection of books based on pre-school property, Waybuloo.

Since its publishing programme first launched in August 2009, Egmont has shifted over half a million books, resulting in revenues of over £1.1 million.

Figures from Nielsen Bookscan showed that Waybuloo outperformed other pre-school character book launches in 2009, such as 3rd and Bird and Chuggington.

Some 19 titles have been published to date across a range of formats including storybooks, board, novelty, colouring and activity books.

Egmont is planning to publish 12 new titles throughout 2011.

"We are delighted with the success of our Waybuloo publishing," said David Riley, MD of Egmont Publishing Group. "All titles have been very well received at retail and the results have been strong in the UK. We are especially pleased to have penetrated all market sectors.

"Waybuloo is a fantastic addition to our pre-school portfolio and we look forward to continued success with this brand, both in the UK and internationally."

Maria Sze, brand director at Zodiak Rights, added: "We are delighted that Egmont is in a position to report such exceptional success for the Waybuloo publishing range.

"With the recent launch of new episodes in Cbeebies Bedtime Hour, I am sure the brand will continue to go from strength to strength and we look forward to working with new licensees to build on this success to date."
