Women In Animation relaunches with new leadership

Mattel's Margaret Dean and Technicolor's Kristy Scanlan head the new WIA organisation

The long-established non-profit organisation Women In Animation has re-launched under the new leadership of Mattel's Margaret Dean and Technicolor's Kristy Scanlan as co-presidents.

The organisation for women who are involved in any aspect of the animation industry, has also formed a new executive committee as well as board of directors and advisory committee.

Dean, Mattel's director of production for playground productions, and Scanlan, Technicolor's vice president of business development, animation and games, will together communicate the organisation's role and vision to its members worldwide.

Retiring co-presidents Rita Street and Jan Nagel will continue to support WIA as members of the Advisory Committee.

Scanlan and Dean said: "It is our goal to engage WIA members through a variety of online and online events, small collegial gatherings and large networking events in an effort to create new opportunities of connection and inspiration.

"We understand how broad the animation market is today from games to web to the traditional film mediums.

"The organisation also looks to inspire women to excel in the animation industry by encouraging artistic excellence through WIA awards and by educating its members about technology advances and career growth in continuing education classes."

The new executive committee will include: Barbara Cimity (line producer, Robot Chicken) as treasurer and Dawn Rivera-Ernster (director of talent development and recruitment at Walt Disney Animation Studios) as secretary.
