MY LIFE IN LICENSING: Sandra Vauthier-Cellier

A wannabe Disney Princess, 4Kids' co-managing director talks us through her life in the licensing industry...

Name:
Sandra Vauthier-Cellier

Time in licensing industry:
At least eight years; since I moved to London.

First job in licensing:
After working for years in retail, I joined the 'crazy world of licensing', working for Jane Evans at The Beanstalk Group as category manager for Europe.

What were your responsibilities?
Mainly working on the Coca-Cola brand and a bit on Harley Davidson, Crayola and Andy Warhol. I was responsible for licensing, retail and marketing. We were a new team, coming from different regions in the UK and countries in Europe. The atmosphere was great and business was very good. I have some great memories.

Current job in licensing:
Co-managing director at 4Kids Entertainment International.

What are your responsibilities?
I'm co-running 4Kids' London operation and responsible for the overall business in Europe (excluding the UK), Middle East, Africa and India, overseeing sales, retail, promotions and marketing.

What is your greatest achievement so far?
To convince Robert Thorne, previous CEO of Dualstar Entertainment Group, not to land onto the Carrefour head offices parking lot in a helicopter. He still managed to keep his black sunglasses on until the beginning of our presentation.

What's the best licence you've worked on so far in your career?
The Mary-Kate and Ashley brand for its 'unexpected and unprecedented adventure'. That was quite a bit of a challenge.

What licence would you most like to have in your portfolio?
Disney Princess, so I can be part of its fantasy world.

If you could choose your dream job in licensing, what would it be and why?
For the moment, the one I have, as I have a fabulous team and great colleagues. Thinking about this, maybe selling dreams.

What is the best thing about working in the licensing industry?
You cannot get bored; there is always something happening somewhere at any time. And the people. I've made some really good friends.
