BLE NEW EXHIBITOR SPOTLIGHT: Howard Robinson
Thursday, 20th October 2011 at 9:01 am
The artist will launch a line of lenticular puzzle designs at BLE.
Howard Robinson has worked as a freelance illustrator for over 30 years, his first ever commission being from Oxford University Press. In 1982, the artist found his niche and began producing dozens of posters and greetings cards for Athena in the UK.
The Strolling Troll concept was licensed by Downpace for a large range of gift and paper products and he says they 'proved to be the 'big hit' of the year and really set the idea of licensing as the way forward.'
Currently, Robinson designs in a number of product areas, with instantly recognisable images, largely animals, on puzzles, greetings cards, stitch kits, T shirts, beach towels, textiles and packaging, zoos, Aquariums and pet products.
38 companies worldwide currently licence Robisnons designs for puzzles. As well as regular puzzles, mini puzzles, 3D puzzles, shaped floor puzzles, 3D Lenticular puzzles, wooden puzzles and puzzle games, he also licences work for the Animal Planet brand.
Robinson was even commissioned by the Whitehouse to produce a special 60th birthday puzzle for President George W Bush and also covers mass market with regular placements in Walmart, Target and Argos.
The artist has found recently that the 3D lenticular designs are the hot product in the sector and is currently working on 20 new lenticular designs for a six product range with a publisher in the US. The designs will be ready at BLE and the artist will be actively seeking partners interested in producing or distributing lenticular products in other territories.
Also on display at the show, the Nostalgic Collection of images by Kevin Walsh, with a large body of images and the All Our Yesterdays Collection, by Faye Whittaker.
