Ink has been appointed as the new Nordic agent for classic cartoon brand Smurfs.
The brand licensing agency already represents Smurfs in Eastern Europe and now hopes to sign licensees across a range of categories in the Nordics.
The iconic blue Smurfs characters were formed in 1958 when Belgian cartoonist Peyo first introduced them to the world in comic book form.
Popularity hit a peak in the ’80s when The Smurfs cartoon from Hanna-Barbera was broadcast across the world. A total of 256 episodes were produced.
Over 300 million Smurf collectable figures have also been sold to date.
Interest in the brand increased again last year when Sony released the Smurfs movie.
“Ink has done a marvellous job in building the profile and commercial success of The Smurfs brand across Eastern Europe, so we are very confident they will be able to repeat this success in the Nordics,” commented William Auriol of Smurfs licensor IMPS.
Ink director Peter Schnohr said: “We are absolutely delighted to be representing The Smurfs across the Nordics.
“It is one of very few truly classic brands out there and regular TV screening in the territory, combined with the weight of excitement that surrounds the movies, means it is very big across Scandinavia.
"We will be looking to build on this by signing licensees across a wide range of sectors."
