Three well-known children’s entertainment brands have made moves in the app space this week: Tamagotchi, SpongeBob SquarePants and Care Bears.
The Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. app has reached 2.5 million downloads, plus a new Angel App will launch in early 2014.
Bandai will be issuing a recreation of the Tamagotchi ‘Generation 2’ version this summer, as an update to its popular app for both Android and iOS users in the US and Canada. There will be a new game in its ‘Toy’ mode, and both a new game and shell designs in the ‘App’ mode.
The next phase for the lifestyle brand will introduce branded products in a wide range of key categories including apparel, home décor, stationery and accessories.

AG Properties, meanwhile, has announced the launch of its first Care Bearsapp – Care BearsCreate & Share. Developed and published by Budge Studios, the new app allows users to create and share their own individual Care Bear postcards with personalised messages.
It’s designed for children aged three and up, and is available for free on iOS (mobiles and iPad), with Android coming soon.
"In-app purchases will enrich and enhance user experience providing additional designs, accessories, and content," read a statement.
Users can select their favourite Care Bear and belly badge or create their own. They can import photos and add personalised faces to "be" a Care Bear, write messages and decorate backgrounds with accessories, stickers and stamps.
Finally, the SpongeBob Moves In iOS app lets fans build their own Bikini Bottom city.
Available worldwide, the £1.49 app features a stylized 2D design and gives fans a whole new way to interact with the hit animated series.
In the game, players build Bikini Bottom and are tasked with keeping the city’s residents happy by making all their wishes come true. As players advance in the game, they can unlock exclusive-to-the-app, untold stories about how their characters, including SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Plankton, Squidward and Sandy, first arrived in the town.
