Carltoon Books has signed Hit Entertainment’s Thomas & Friends for a new range of Augmented Reality books that come to life when using a tablet or smartphone.
Carlton has previously launched AR books that worked with computers and laptops, but not iPads or iPhones and Android devices.
The company has also collaborated with Disney for a Cars 2 AR book, Moshi Monsters, 20th Century Fox for an AR Ice Age book for the latest film. It’s also about to release a Monsters AR book with Disney for the new film.
It has also just launched two new AR books, compatible with tablets and smartphones and priced at £9.99 each – iDinosaur and iSolar System.
A Carlton spokesperson told Licensing.biz: "The two titles that launched yesterday are our first AR books with a free app to work on iPad/phone and Android.
"Later in the year we will publish an official Thomas The Tank Engine title and we plan to work with many other leading brands. This is just the beginning of what we see as the books of the future."
iDinosaur delivers a completely new level of Augmented Reality experience. Kids can unleash a T-Rex on the breakfast table, or take a photo of their friends as a Pteranodon swoops through the air before their eyes. The book is also packed with dinosaur facts and CGI dinosaur illustrations.
iSolar System takes the reader on a journey from the Moon to Mars, to the outer planets and beyond, using AR images based on the American Natural History Museum’s ‘Beyond Planet Earth’exhibition.
Here’s an example of how the books come to life using an app and tablet:
