Pedigree Books has extended its line-up of annuals for 2013, welcoming Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog into the portfolio.
The character will join Pedigree’s Gaming and New Media range, which includes other digital brands such as Annoying Orange, Cut the Rope, Angry Birds and Angry Birds Star Wars.
The annual will launch on August 1st.
The range will apparently be the first ‘super interactive’ annuals in the market and will include Augmented Reality technology, which allows readers to use tablets and smartphones to access additional content via a free app.
This includes extended character profiles, extra stories and activities such as colouring, mazes, puzzles and a ‘make your own poster’ feature.
Around 20 per cent of each annual can be unlocked in this way.
"Like the other super interactive annuals in the range, it will boast the hugely exciting AR feature, which is offering kids something completely different and really enhances the value of each annual," said Matthew Reynolds, publishing and sales director at Pedigree.
