The LEGO Movie has enjoyed the UK’s biggest debut of 2014 so far.
Following on from £2.16m made in preview last weekend, Warner Bros’ The LEGO Movie topped the UK box office in its first weekend with a debut of £8.05m, reports Screen.
The film also looks on track to be the best performer from its directors, Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, beating the duo’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs £6.5m total and already close to 21 Jump Street’s £10.1m.
The LEGO Movie’s debut tops the first weekend totals of Up, with £6.4m, and Finding Nemo, with £7.4m, but falls behind the biggest debut of 2013 in Despicable Me 2’s £14.9m.
And the film may retain the kids’ vote for some time yet, with the next major children’s movie release coming on March 28th with Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted.
