Puffin has confirmed it will publish Diary of a Wimpy Kid book nine on November 5th 2014.
The new book in the successful series written and illustrated by Jeff Kinney – which has sold more than 120 million copies around the world – will also be published globally in more than 80 countries.
An original new image by Jeff Kinney, featuring Greg Heffley and his family on a typical road trip, has been released to tease fans about what’s to come in the new book.
“For the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, I’m taking the Heffleys out of their home environment and sending them out on the road,” said Kinney. “Writing about an epic family road trip has really got my creative juices flowing, and I think this could be the funniest book yet.”
The November release will coincide with major publicity, marketing and social-media promotions with Wimpy Kid’s international partners around the world.
On Monday, April 28th, Kinney will take part in Wimpy Kid Virtually Live a live-streamed global cover reveal of Book Nine. Schools worldwide can tune in to watch the author take part in a live fun-filled interactive webcast culminating in an unveiling of the cover of the new book. UK schools can now register to watch at www.puffinvirtuallylive.co.uk.
Published in 2007 by Abrams in the US, the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid book was an instant bestseller. Success in the UK followed a year later when Puffin acquired the property.
With each subsequent book, in-print numbers continue to grow exponentially both here and abroad, to a combined 120 million copies by the time the eighth book, Hard Luck, went on sale in 2013. With this incredible number, Wimpy Kid joined the elite ranks of the few series that have surpassed this huge multi-million mark, including The Chronicles of Narnia and Twilight.
