British stars celebrated at Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards

It was a pretty good time to be British at this year’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice awards, as some of the UK’s biggest sports and pop stars took to the stage to scoop a roster of awards.

The 27th annual ceremony celebrated the likes of British sporting names, Andy Murray, Tom Daley and Gareth Bale as well as its pool of pop groups.

One Direction came out on top, taking home three blimps, including Favourite Music Group and Favourite Song for Story of My Life in the international categories.

The boy band also took UK Favourite Pop Band, while their legion of fans, the Directioners, got in on the action as they won UK Favourite Fan Family.

The Vamps took this year’s UK Favourite Breakthrough act award, while McFly were surprised with an honorary award for Favourite UK Band of the Decade, presented by the Tennage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Meanwhile, at the event hosted by Mark Wahlberg, Andy Murray claimed his award for UK History Maker, and received the event’s greatest award by being slimed.

Tom Daley received UK’s Favourite Sports Star and Gareth Bale UK’s Favourite Football Star.

Other British names to take the spotlight this year included Jacqueline Wilson who won UK Favourite Book for her Four Children and It, and Zoe Sugg, officially the UK’s favourite Vlogger.

In the international categories, Adam Sandler, Robert Downey Jr and Jennifer Lawrence were each presented with the awards.

Sandler picked up a blimp for Favourite Movie Actor, Lawrence was voted Favourite Movie Actress and Favourite Female Buttkicker and Downey Jr took home the prize for Favourite Male Buttkicker.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was voted Favourite Movie and Disney’s Frozen was awarded Favourite Animated Movie.
