Marvel lines up Benedict Cumberbatch to play Doctor Strange

Marvel has tapped Benedict Cumberbatch to play Doctor Strange.

Deadline reports that the Sherlock star is the studio’s choice for the superhero film and negotiations are about to begin.

Sinister’s Scott Derrickson is directing the film which follows Stephen Strange, a former neurosurgeon who had to leave the profession after a car accident damaged his hands. In his most desperate moment, he meets the mysterious Ancient One, who helps transform Strange into a powerful practicing sorcerer.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige first confirmed a Doctor Strange movie was in the pipeline last year.

Doctor Strange is set to land in cinemas on July 8th, 2016.
