Walker Books builds Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland licensing plans

Walker Books is continuing to build up the licensing programme around Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, with a number of partners now on board.

Interior designer Mary Gannon has teamed up with Walker Books to produce a range of children’s furniture featuring Helen Oxenbury’s cast of characters, from the Mad Hatter to the Cheshire Cat and Alice herself.

Handmade in the Cotswolds by local craftsmen, the collection includes three differently decorated Alice-themed wardrobes, a storage unit, a writing table, a Mad Hatter hat storage box, a small bookshelf and a range of home textiles (including cushions, bags and wallpaper), plus an Alice-themed chair.

The range will be available from January 2015.

Meanwhile, Flame Tree Publishing is also on board and will produce an Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland calendar based on Helen’s artwork for 2016, hitting retail from autumn next year.

"From Disney to Johnny Depp, Alice in Wonderland has been interpreted on screen and in print in many different ways over the years," said Anna Hewitt, head of licensing at Walker Books. "Helen Oxenbury’s illustrations bring this classic story to life in a whole new way and she presents a version of Alice that is original, beautiful and refreshingly contemporary.

"This is just the beginning of our plans for Alice and we are delighted to have such fantastic partners on board already. The enthusiasm from our collaborative partners has been fantastic, and we are thrilled to be delivering a little piece of Wonderland into people’s homes."
