A third series of the BAFTA award winning 2D pre-school animation Sarah & Duck has been commissioned by Cbeebies.
The new series will comprise 40 seven-minute episodes, bringing the total number of Sarah & Duck episodes to 120 and guaranteeing the brand’s on-screen presence with new content both on CBeebies UK and CBeebies International channels until at least 2018.
The third series commission follows a period of successful activity for the animated duo. A third DVD – Balloon Race – was released earlier this year, while the brand’s first app – Sarah & Duck: A Day at the Park – went straight to the top of the Kids iTunes charts.
"We’re delighted to be making further adventures with Sarah & Duck as they continue to explore the world around them," said executive producer and Karrot Entertainment co-founder, Chris White. "During the first two series we’ve established an expanding collection of comedic characters and surprising locations.
"We’re thrilled that we’ll be able to continue our relationship with them for 40 fresh episodes."
BBC Worldwide has also secured a continued licensing and merchandising agreement in the UK for Sarah & Duck. The merchandise line that features plush toys from Posh Paws, encourages young children to recreate the pair’s adventures at home.
Following the early success of the first three picture books, two more books from Puffin along with a Christmas-themed DVD will be released later this year.
