DreamWorks sees surprise Q3 2015 profit following consumer products sales lift

DreamWorks Animation has reported surprise profit for Q3 thanks to improved earnings from licensing and home entertainment.

DVD and Blu-ray releases of Home, it’s only movie for 2015 helped the Hollywood studio reach an adjusted net income of two cents per share in revenue of $259 million.

The result is a 43 per cent surge on generated revenue for the same period last year.

Through its film arm, Dreamworks Animation brought n $158 million in revenure, up from $142 million year-over-year. The studio hasn’t released a new film since the March premiere of Home, which grossed $386 million at the box office.

The studio’s partnership with Netflix has also been championed as a key driver in the better-than-expected results for the company, while consumer products revenue has more than doubled from last year to $27 million for the quarter.
