Doc McStuffins and Star Wars win big at the 2016 Toy of the Year Awards

It’s a big year for children’s licenses in the toy space as Doc McStuffins, Star Wars and Shopkins emerge victorious in the 2016 Toy of the Year Awards.

The 16th annual Awards ceremony, held during the New York International Toy Fair has celebrated leading kids’ brands with the Doc McStuffins Pet Vet Checkup Centre from Just Play named the best toy of the year.

Meanwhile, Star Wars enjoyed recognition in two categories as the LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Millenium Falcon beat the likes of Nerf and Hot Wheels to scoop the win in the Boy Toy of the Year category, while Star Wars was named the Property of the Year.

The Disney and Lucasfilm license championed over Jurassic World, Minions, Nerf, Paw Patrol and Shopkins to secure the win.

Elsewhere, and in a big year for Disney, its toys-to-life title Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition emerged as the E-connected Toy of the Year winner, beating Mattel’s Hello Barbie and Activision’s Skylanders SuperChargers.

Rounding off a strong year for kids’ licensing, the globally renowned Shopkins name also stole victory as Moose Toys’ Shopkins Scoops Ice Cream Truck fought off the likes of Disney’s Frozen Sing-A-Long Elsa (Jakks Pacific) and Hasbro’s Nerf Rebelle to line to win the Girl Toy of the Year category.
