Beatrix Potter’s rediscovered The Tale of Kitty in Boots cover illustration revealed

The front cover illustration of a rediscovered original tale by Beatrix Potter has finally been revealed.

Illustrated by Quentin Blake, the original story called The Tale of Kitty in Boots was recently uncovered by Penguin Random House Children, over 100 years after it was originally written.

Blake has a long history of illustrating hit children’s titles and is most famed for his work with the Roald Dahl collection of stories.

“It seemed almost incredible when, early in 2015, I was sent the manuscript of a story by Beatrix Potter; one which had lain unpublished for a hundred years and which, with the exception of a single drawing, she had never illustrated,” said Blake.

“I liked the story immediately – it’s full of incident and mischief and character – and I was fascinated to think that I was being asked to draw pictures for it. I have a strange feeling that it might have been waiting for me.”

According to Penguin Random House Children’s Jo Hanks, when it came to picking an illustrator for the rediscovered title, choosing Blake was a no-brainer.

“It’s a challenging brief to illustrate a manuscript written over a hundred years ago by one of the world’s most beloved authors, but we knew that Quentin’s energy, rebelliousness and humour were in keeping with Beatrix’s own artistic sensibilities and therefore exactly what this fantastic book called out for,” said Hanks.

Frederick Warne & Co, the original publisher of the Beatrix Potter collection and an imprint of Penguin Random House Children’s, will publish The Tale of Kitty in Boots on September 1st, this year, 150 years after Potter’s birth.
