Marvel’s Doctor Strange hits UK number one in opening week

Marvel Studio’s latest heroic outing Doctor Strange has opened this week as the UK’s number one film.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, the film is set to make over £5.2 million over the coming weekend with a total cume of £9.1 million since its opening on Tuesday.

The result means Doctor Strange has outperformed the opening weekends of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man.

Doctor Strange, also starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton, follows the story of the world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange who, when involved in a car accident, finds his life taking an unconventional turn that leads him into a battle to defend the earth from a powerful sorceror. Strange is in cinemas across the UK and Ireland now.
