Disney cuts ties with YouTube sensation PewDiePie

Disney has dropped YouTube star PewDiePie following allegations of anti-Semitic posts.

The company made the decision to cut all ties with PewDiePie after videos he released contained Nazi references and anti-Semitic imagery.

Known as one of the highest paid YouTube sensations, PewDiePie reportedly accepted that the videos were offensive, however stated that he did not support ‘any kind of hateful attitudes’.

Disney is associated with PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, through Maker Studios, a firm boasting a network of YouTube stars.

Maker Studios said in a statement: “Although Felix has created a following by being provocative and irreverent, he clearly went too far in this case and the resulting videos are inappropriate,” reports Variety.

“Maker Studios has made the decision to end our affiliation with him going forward.”

In one video, PewDiePie paid people in India through a crowd-sourcing platform to hold up a sign that read ‘death to all Jews’, which he defended as a joke in another video that was published a week later.

Both videos have since been removed form his channel.
