Netflix has announced a new prequel series to cult Jim Henson movie The Dark Crystal, coming exclusively to the video streaming service at an unconfirmed date. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will be a ten episode prequel series, following the story of the battle between the Skeksis and the Mystics with the innocent Gelflings caught in the middle.
The 1982 animatronic-puppetry film became famous for its lavish world filled with fantastical creatures devised by the mind of Jim Henson. The new series will feature an ensemble of fantastical characters created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, with Brian Froud, the concept designer for both The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, contributing to the prequel’s character design.

Elsewhere, McFarlane Toys has announced plans for a new line of figures based on classic films The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.
The upcoming toys will include a 7-inch figure of Labyrinth’s Jareth the Goblin King, and for The Dark Crystal,fans can look forward to figures of Jen and Kira. Each figure will be highly detailed and come fully articulated to recreate iconic movie scenes. These figures will also debut in new window box collector packaging and will come with Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal branded detailed bases.

The Labyrinth figures will hit shelves in November whilst The Dark Crystal line is slated for Spring 2018.
