Minions studio reportedly creating a Mario movie

Nintendo is reportedly in the late stages of talks with Minions animation studio Illumination to secure the license to create an animated Super Mario Bros. movie.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that the two companies have been in talks for a year with Nintendo confirmed to be involved with the creative process as well as the series’ creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who will likely serve as a producer on the film.

Illumination’s Mac Guff studio in Paris who has been responsible for the Despicable Me series of films has commenced development on the film with the release date unconfirmed.

Nintendo has already been in talks with Sony to produce the film, but Universal’s Illumination studio is no doubt a more logical fit, given that the corporation is already in production on a Super Mario theme park.
