Now Pro Evo Soccer 2019 loses Borussia Dortmund license

A surprise announcement yesterday has seen Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 lose its license with the only German club on its books, Borussia Dortmund.

The agreement between the football club and Konami – the game’s publisher – was ‘prematurely terminated’ by the club itself, two years short of its expected expiration date.

Konami hasn’t listed the reasons why Borussia Dortmund spiked the deal, but posted the statement to advise that although the team had appeared in marketing shots of the game so far, it won’t be in the final product when it launches at the end of August.

Borussia Dortmund was the only club in Germany’s top-flight Bundesliga to appear under its own name in Pro Evolution Soccer 2018. Konami has over the years, put together a patchwork of licenses – two clubs from Spain’s La Liga, several clubs from Serie A and three from the Premier League, but not the full leagues or their names and symbols.

Historically, Pro Evolution Soccer held the UEFA and Champions League licenses over FIFA. However, UEFA terminated its ten year deal.
