Vintage Star Wars toys and merch exhibition extends dates following ‘overwhelming public response’

Portugal’s Museo do Caramulo is extending it’s the Power of The Force: Toys and Posters from Star Wars (1977-85) exhibition due to ‘overwhelming public response.’

The exhibition was curated to celebrate the 40 anniversary of the sci-fi saga and is based on what is considered one of the best and most complete collections of toy and posters from the vintage Star Wars universe in the world.

Its run was scheduled to come to a close on May 27 this year, but die to public request and demand, has been extended until September 30 2018.

‘From a distant galaxy into the public eye, The Power of the Force displays an extensive collection of original toys and posters, produced between 1977 and 1985, referring to the first three films of the universe created by George Lucas in the 1970s and forever changing the world of cinema, toy and merchandise industry,’ reads the exhibition’s descriptive blurb.

Hundreds of items covering all the original action figures of the first trilogy’s original characters, as well as their ships, play-sets, packaging, cards, merchandising and other memorabilia all feature in the collection.

It also includes many rare toys produced outside of the US in countries licensed with manufacturing rights such as Canada, japan, Spain, France, Italy, England, Argentina and Brazil.

It also features a set of counterfeit versions of toys made by unauthorised entities across countries such as Mexico, Poland, Hungary and Hong Kong.

Tiago Patricio Gouveia, director of the museum, said: “The exhibition was scheduled to end on May 27 but we have received numerous contacts and requests to extend the exhibition by those who had not yet had the opportunity to visit and who did not want to stop doing so.

“It was then decided to extend until September 30, thus giving one last opportunity to all those who have not yet been able to come here to appreciate this exceptional collection.”
