There’s a new Ghostbusters film planned for 2020 and a teaser just landed

Sony Pictures has been powering up the proton packs on the sly with the reveal that a new instalment in the Ghostbusters franchise will land in 2020.

A teaser trailer for the upcoming film landed online yesterday with very few details around the film being made official.

Jason Reitman is on board as director for the film that according to sources will be a continuation of the 1984 sequel and will not be connected to the 2016 film.

Reitman, whose father Ivan directed the first two Ghostbusters movies has co-written a screenplay with Gil Kenan and plans to shoot the film this summer. Sony has planned to release the latest sequel in summer 2020.

It hasn’t been revealed whether the film’s planned storyline will mean the return of the original cast. However, sources say that Reitman has begun testing teenagers for four mystery roles.

"I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a six-year-old visiting the set," Reitman enthused.

"I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ’80s happened in the ’80s, and this is set in the present day."
