First details of Disney+ launch date and original content emerge

The first live-action Star Wars TV series, a new version of High School Musical, a Marvel show following the adventures of Loki and a series set in the world of Pixar’s Monsters Inc will b the first original content projects to land on Disney+.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the new streaming service from Disney is expected to launch in November this year.

It’s suggested that the platform will host a library of classic Disney content, following research into viewing habits based on the UK streaming service DisneyLife. It revealed that “subscribers say they want new programming, but often just watch the old.”

As a result, the first tranche of original content planned for Disney+ has a ring of familiarity about it, based on existing properties such as Star Wars that sees its first live-action TV series take the shape of The Mandalorian, and a new version of High School Musical.

Plans for Marvel shows including a Loki series, as well as Pixar content such as Monsters At Work, set in the world of Monsters Inc have also been detailed.

Meanwhile, Disney software developers have reportedly been told to “dial back other projects to make sure the service can handle millions of subscribers when it launches.”
