Nadiya Hussain to deliver keynote at 2019 Children’s Media Conference

Writer and presenter, Nadiya Hussain, is to deliver the opening keynote interview at this year’s Children’s Media Conference, ahead of the publication of her first children’s picture book this year.

Since winning The Great British Bake Off in 2015, Hussain has written a number of books and presented a series of TV shows. She has been noted for her refusal to be pigeon-holed and her willingness to speak out – including openly discussing her lifelong struggle with a panic disorder.

Ahead of the launch of her children’s picture book, ‘My Monster and Me’ this October, Hussain will present a keynote interview at CMC this July, in which she will face down issues such as mental health, intolerance, and inequality, and consider what can be done to inspire young people today.

Greg Childs, editorial director at CMC, said: “Nadiya is an inspiration and a great example of somebody who is relentlessly positive and follows her creative dreams, while managing a busy family life, her own personal challenges and wider discrimination.

“All of these pressures also impact children and are issues which resonate widely in the kids’ media industry. Her commitment to opening up discussions around these important topics and breaking down stigma is inspiring, and we look forward to welcoming Nadiya to CMC.”

Nadiya’s keynote interview comes as part of this year’s overall theme of ‘Limitless’ and will explore what kids’ media can do to support the limitless curiosity, imaginations and entertainment appetite of children, while making sense of the near-limitless choice and connectivity available to them.

The conference will offer visitors a no-limits exploration of the unprecedented changes facing the industry, including new players and new funding models, new thinking on inclusivity and engagement, and pan-platform brands with limitless ambitions to connect with kids.

Now in its 16th year, the conference expects to welcome more than 1,200 delegates, kicking off with the annual market day, the CMC International Exchange on Tuesday July 2nd, which plays host to a wide range of broadcasters, co-producers, funders and investors from across the world keen to meet sellers of content and services.
