Netflix has signed an “overall deal” with the comic book publisher Dark Horse Entertainment, having seen success with the adaptation of its The Umbrella Academy comic series.
The series was recently renewed for a second season, in a deal that was followed with a wider reaching partnership for Dark Horse Comic titles.
“We are very excited about this new arrangement with the talented people at Netflix,” said Mike Richardson, Dark Horse president and founder.
“We have strong creative relationships as well as a large content library to work with, and, as we have seen with our recent projects, Netflix is the perfect partner to bring our stories to fans around the world.”
Dark Horse is now preparing to bring “a whole slate” of movies and shows to its global audience via the Netflix partnership. It has been established after Dark Horse’s previous content deal with UCP came to an end.
Netflix’s Cindy Holland, added: “The Netflix teams are already working in deep collaboration with Dark Horse to identify projects beyond the world of traditional superheroes – branching into horror, fantasy and family entertainment, that we think our members will love.”
With Dark Horse, Netflix gains another strong player in the comic book IP scene, following its deal with Mark Millar’s Millarworld.
