Mattel partners with Epic Rights for David Bowie Barbie

Following the recent launch of its first space oddity Barbie in the shape of the European Space Agency’s woman astronaut, Samantha Cristoforetti, Mattel is seemingly continuing with the out-of-this-world theme, this time in homage to our own Moonage Daydream, David Bowie.

Detailing the launch this week, Mattel is paying tribute to music’s icon with a new collectable doll dubbed Barbie as Bowie, honouring David Bowie’s legacy by giving the fashionista a glam-rock, Ziggy Stardust makeover.

Barbie as Bowie comes complete with his iconic striped metallic ‘space suit’ and platform red boots. It’s all topped of with Ziggy’s signature fiery red hair and astral sphere forehead icon.

The Bowie Barbie doll was created by Mattel in partnership with the 2019 The David Bowie Archive, under license to Perryscope Productions LLC/Epic Rights and marks the 50th anniversary of the UK release of Bowie’s Space Oddity single from the singer’s 1969 album.

Fans can purchase the David Bowie collector Barbie doll for $50 on Mattel’s website or at retailers nationwide starting now.
