Disney reigns at UK and Ireland box office with The Lion King and Toy Story 4

Disney’s The Lion King continues to fight off all competition for its reigning crown as the number one film at the UK and Ireland box office. The CGI action remake of the classic title has now been number one for 24 consecutive days since its release on July 19 this year.

That, Disney is quick to point out, is the longest any film has spent at number one this year.

On top of this, this week, Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 4 overtook Incredibles 2 to become the second biggest animated film ever in the UK. The result means the Toy Story series now dominates the top of the all-time animation chart with number one and two.

Toy Story 3 is still the biggest grossing animated film of all time in the UK and Ireland, with Pixar now holding the top three animated films of all time.

Both films have now entered the top 20 films of all time, with The Lion King taking £59.9million, becoming the 19th biggest film ever in the UK and Ireland, with Toy Story 4 becoming the 20th with £58.7 million.

Disney still has the top five films of the year with Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King, Toy Story 4, Captain Marvel and Aladdin all taking the top spots in the ultimate UK and Ireland box office 2019 chart.
