Mattel and Disney launch Star Wars: A New Hope inspired Barbie collection

Mattel has teamed up with Disney and Lucasfilm’s iconic sci-fi franchise Star Wars to release a new Barbie collection that pays homage to Star Wars: A New Hope.

The collection is inspired by the film’s original concept art and re-imagines its cast of characters as Barbie dolls, with the only-to-be-expected filter of fashion turned right up.

Launching on November 18 this year, the range consists of Darth Vader, R2-D2, and Princess Leia, with each doll coming complete with its own stand and certificate of authenticity.

The collectable Star Wars x Barbie doll captures Darth Vader’s Sith armour silhouette in a head to toe shiny black ensemble. Metallic details at her collar and waist, dark glasses and a black cap finish off the look.

Meanwhile, the Star Wars R2-D2 x Barbie doll captures the droid’s look in a geometric ensemble with a dome skirt, bomber jacket and thigh-high boots over silvery tights. She has a vibrant blue ponytail to complete the look.

Finally, the Star Wars Princess Leia x Barbie doll captures the character’s iconic look in an elegant white gown with dramatic, floor length sleeves. Details include a silvery peplum belt, cuff jewellery and an up-do inspired by her signature bun style.
