Numskull’s new Tubbz collectables will ‘provide something for all kinds of fans’

The pop culture and video game licensing specialist, Numskull has expanded on its plans for its new range of toy collectables, Tubbz, indicating that the series – comprising toy rubber ducks adorned in popular licensed character get-up – will have something for all manner of fandom when the line hits full capacity.

It was a successful launch of the collectable line that Numskull enjoyed at the consumer-trade hybrid videogame show, Gamescom in Cologne this week, where the firm was showcasing its initial wave one line up of characters.

Among the range of fully licensed ‘cosplaying ducks,’ were recognisable characters from big hitting video game franchises such as Spyro, Borderlands 3, Destiny and Skyrim. But while videogame IP may have been top billing during this three-day German showcase, Numskull has firm plans to bring all its partnering brands into the Tubbz fold.

Christopher Hill, international marketing manager at Rubber Road Ltd, the mother company of the Numskull arm, told Licensing.biz: “We absolutely have plans to work with all the brands we have within our portfolio on this line. We want to provide a toy collectable that appeals to all pop culture fans.

“You take a look at the product; the quality and the thought that has gone into the design of each one, even small points like their ability to be stacked easily, and you can see that this is a line made for collectors, and we will be far from stopping at video game IP. This is a cross-fandom product.”

Tubbz transforms some of the most iconic figures and characters from geek culture into a series of duck-style figurines, each with poses that reflect their characters, and packaged in a stackable box with  bathtub-shaped display stand.

“It’s a bit of a mad concept, but this is what we are good at,” added Hill. “To describe a cosplaying duck in only words is a difficult task. But as soon as you see them, you get. You should hear some of the ideas that get thrown around in our creative meetings.”

Already, Numskull has licensed the likes of DC Comics’ Batman, Robin, Joker, and Harley Quinn, as well as Egon, Ray, Venkman, and Winston from the classic Ghostbusters IP. Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Blanka from Street Fighter, and Frodo, Gandalf, Sauron, and Legolas from The Lord of the Rings also feature.

Tubbz will be released in regular waves featuring a new assortment of collectables in each to represent new fan-favourite brands.
