Redbubble launches Fan Art campaign with Gearbox and 2K for Borderlands 3 release

Fan art specialist, Redbubble Group, is entering into a triple-threat partnership with Gearbox Software, and the publisher 2K to launch a Borderlands fan art programme, celebrating the launch of the hotly-anticipated Borderlands 3.

As part of the partnership, Gearbox and 2K will enable Redbubble Group’s user base of over one million artists to develop officially licensed Fan Art based on the Borderlands gaming franchise. These designs will then be offered for sale on over 90 products to fans all over the world.

“Our fan art community has always been very active and passionate about creating and sharing their own original works,” said Erica Hollinshead Stead, director of licensing for the gaming company.

“We are very grateful to have the energy that fan artists bring to our game and to be able to see the personal connections and contributions that our community members make. We’ve often dreamed for a bigger way that we could celebrate and give back to our fan artists, and with the Redbubble collaboration, we’ll be able to invite creators into our Borderlands family in a new way.”

“We have felt the benefits of an active, creative community; we are excited to help independent creators benefit from what they bring to the table – now in an official way. Redbubble’s platform will enable us to work with our creative community to bring to life a universe of products straight from the imaginations of Borderlands fans themselves.”

Eric Morse, Redbubble SVP of partnership and general manager of global licensing, added: “Our two marketplaces give gaming fans and consumers more flexibility and access globally.

“We are excited to bring fan art to life for both creators and the people who want to rock fun and distinctive Borderlands gear.”

The fourth instalment of one of the bestselling video game franchises of all time – more than 45 million copies of Borderlands games have been sold to date – Borderlands 3 will be available for purchase at midnight on September 13.

The partnership, brokered by Borderlands licensing agent Retail Monster, LLC, begins with a fan art challenge hosted on Redbubble.com that runs until October 13.
