Backyard Cinema teams with Penguin Ventures for Hyde Park Winter Wonderland The Snowman experience

London’s independent themed cinema outfit, Backyard Cinema, has partnered with Penguin Ventures to bring a The Snowman Experience to the capital this Christmas.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the classic story of The Snowman, Backyard Cinema is creating an immersive multi-roomed and multi-sensory cinematic experience at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland this year.

Ticket holders will be able to journey through favourite scenes from the classic film with replica sets taking up residence across 5000 square feet of space dedicated to the film. A ten metre wide curved screen made of 300 LED panels will have guests feeling like they are flying beside The Snowman in that iconic scene.

Thomas Merrington, creative director at Penguin Ventures, said: “When we started planning for the Snowman 40th celebrations we were keen to create some outstanding new experiences that could be enjoyed by everyone.

‘We are thrilled to be working with Backyard Cinema who has been an extraordinary partner and has enabled us to bring The Snowman to life in an entirely new way. We are certain that The Snowman Experience will create unforgettable memories for all generations of visitors to Winter Wonderland Festival this year.”

Backyard Cinema’s The Snowman Experience will be open daily from 10am to 10pm, opening from November 21st to December 6th.

Dominic Davies, founder and creative director, Backyard Cinema, added: “When we started working on this project it became clear that watching the SNowman at Christmas was a huge tradition for the team so having the chance to work with such a popular character who is close to the hearts of so many people has been a real honour.

‘We wanted to give people the chance to enjoy this Christmas classic in a way they could never have imagined and so have tried to really challenge the perception of what it means to watch The Snowman.

“Hopefully in doing so we have created a little bit of magic that everyone can believe in for a short while.”
