Mattel’s fashion doll brand Barbie is moving into the travel accessories market, thanks to an exclusive new partnership with Samsonite.
Not content with inspiring two generations over the past 60 years, Barbie is making a play for the travel sector via its new capsule Samsonite x Barbie collection, which promises to offer “dreamy pink and black bags and luggage for all occasions.”
The collection kicks off with the Mini Me Suitcase collection, a lightweight, polycarbonate Neopulse Barbie collection featuring two pink cabin-sized spinners, including one mini size spinner 45 for kids. The interior packing features retro Barbie logos.
This is joined by the Mini Me Bags collection for kids and adults. Barbie’s retro logo is featured in shiny black sequins on the adult sized backpack, and chic crossbody bag. The small kids’ backpacks are exclusively furnished with mini furry pom poms and two-tone Barbie logo sequins.
Completing the collection is the Dream Rider Barbie, targeting kids aged three to eight. With sturdy wheels, and a large storage volume, the suitcase doubles as a ride-on.
“We are thrilled to partner with Samsonite on a range of quality and beautiful luggage,” said Gemma Daniels, softlines manager, Mattel UK. “Mattel is a proud partner to children as they journey through childhood, and it is a natural fit to partner with Samsonite on a range that accompanies young people as they journey through new experiences.”
